Ingredients (Serves 6)
3 (12 inch) untreated cedar planks
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger root
1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 (2 pound) salmon fillets, skin removed
Time: 35 Minutes after Prepping Planks
Presoak the cedar planks at least 4 hours (up to 24). This will prevent them from catching fire during the grilling process.
The planks can be presoaked ahead of time and frozen for later use.
Costco has the best deals on the planks at $8 for a package of six.
Preheat outdoor grill for medium heat (300 - 400 degrees F). No thermometer? The grill is ready when you can only hold the palm of your hand two inches above the grate for 4 -5 seconds before pulling away.
Place the planks on the grate. They are ready for grilling when they start to smoke and crackle just a little.
Place your salmon fillets or steaks onto the planks. Cover, and grill for about 20 minutes. Then turn off the heat and keep it on the grill for about 5 more minutes before serving. Your salmon is done when you can flake it with a fork.
