Greek Burger Recipes

Feta Cheese Stuffed Greek Burger Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 6)
Time: Under 30 Minutes

  • 2 lbs 85% lean ground beef chuck (or go half and half with ground lamb or turkey)


  • 4 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)


  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced


  • 2 teaspoons oregano (or store bought Greek seasoning)


  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper


  • 1 1/2 cups crumbled feta cheese with olives, sun-dried tomato, and basil (store bought)


  • 6 pita pockets (crusty ciabatta flatbread works well too)


  • Grilling Instructions

    1. Preheat the grill as follows:

    Gas:
    Direct heat, medium-high
    (425 - 450 degrees F)

    Charcoal:
    Direct heat, light ash, grate should be on lowest setting

    Wood:
    Direct heat, light ash, 3 - 4 inches deep, grate should be 2 inches above the fire

    2. Meanwhile in a large bowl, mix together all of the ingredients except the herb feta cheese and pita pockets. Don't overmix. With a light touch, form into 12 patties no more than 1/2 inch thick.

    Place equal amounts of crumbled herb feta cheese in the middle of 6 of the patties, place remaining 6 patties on top, press together, and seal edges well. This will keep the cheese from oozing out onto your grill and making a mess during the grilling process.

    3. Lightly cut criss-cross marks into one side of your hamburger patties. Refrigerate them until the grill is ready.

    4. Clean and lightly oil grill grate. Grill stuffed Greek hamburger patties, covered, 8 minutes total, flipping once halfway through.

    5. Remove your burgers from the grill once they are at your desired level of doneness.

    6. Allow them to rest a few minutes before serving to let the juices settle.

    7. These burgers don't need a lot of toppings because they are so packed full of flavor. They are perfect topped off just with some fresh spinach leaves and extra feta cheese. Try 'em with a side of our Italian marinated grilled vegetable kabobs.


    Gyros Greek Burger Recipe

    Ingredients
    (Makes 4 8oz Burgers)
    Time: 30 Minutes

    Greek Cucumber Sauce (optional but highly recommended)
  • 2 small cucumbers, peeled, seeded, and finely diced (or pickling cucumbers)


  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper


  • 2/3 cup low-fat plain yogurt


  • 1/2 teaspoon minced fresh mint leaves


  • 1/2 teaspoon minced fresh dill


  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh onion


  • Burger Patties
  • 1 lb 85% lean ground beef chuck (or go half and half with ground lamb or turkey)


  • 1/2 sweet onion, finely chopped


  • 2 cloves garlic, minced


  • 1 slice bread, toasted and crumbled


  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano


  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice


  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander


  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper


  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cumin


  • 6 pita pockets (crusty ciabatta flatbread works well too)


  • Directions for Grilling Greek Burgers

    1. Prepare your cucumber sauce first so that it has plenty of time to chill in the fridge before serving with these awesome Greek flavored burgers:
    Toss diced cucumber and salt together in a colander. Allow to drain for 10 minutes.

    In a serving bowl, combine the yogurt, mint, dill, and onion. Mix in the drained cucumber. Chill in fridge.
    2. Preheat the grill as follows:

    Gas:
    Direct heat, medium-high
    (425 - 450 degrees F)

    Charcoal:
    Direct heat, light ash, grate should be on lowest setting

    Wood:
    Direct heat, light ash, 3 - 4 inches deep, grate should be 2 inches above the fire

    3. Meanwhile in a bowl, use your hands to mix together all of the ingredients for your burger patties except the pita pockets of course. With a light touch, form into 4 patties no more than 1 inch thick.

    4. Lightly cut criss-cross marks into one side of your hamburger patties. Refrigerate them until the grill is ready.

    5. Clean and lightly oil grill grate. Grill burgers, covered, 8 minutes total, flipping once halfway through.

    6. Remove your burgers from the grill once they are at your desired level of doneness.

    7. Allow them to rest a few minutes before serving to let the juices settle.

    8. Serve inside pita pockets topped with chilled cucumber sauce, red onion slices, and diced fresh tomatoes.
