Fresh Grilled Asparagus Recipe

Ingredients
(Serves 4)
Time: Under 1 Hour

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

  • 1/2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus spears, trimmed
Asparagus has a natural way of telling you where it ought to be trimmed. Hold the middle and end of an asparagus and lightly bend it until it snaps. Discard the end that brakes-off.
  • Skewers
    Grilling Tip:
Always presoak wooden skewers in water for 30 minutes prior to grilling asparagus to prevent the skewers from burning.
  • How to Grill Asparagus

In a blender or food processor, add the minced olive oil, balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Pulse at least 10 seconds to thoroughly combine your marinade.

Place the marinade and asparagus in a large resealable plastic bag. Seal and shake to coat evenly. Reopen, remove excess air, reseal and allow to marinate at least 1 hour.

Preheat grill for high heat (at least 500 degrees F). Your grill is ready when you can only place the palm of your hand, two inches above the grate, for about one second before pulling away.

Using two skewers, one at the top and one at the bottom, skewer 6 asparagus at a time (it should look like a little fence). This arrangement makes them easy to turn on the grill and they won’t slip through the grate.

Lightly oil grate and grill asparagus over high heat 6 minutes (or to desired doneness), turning once midway. Serve warm.
