How to Grill Catfish Creole Style

While watching this video, keep in mind these catfish grilling tips:

Preheat grill for high heat (450 degrees F).

When grilling this type of fish be sure to lightly oil your fish (use olive or vegetable oil) and the grate to prevent sticking.

Grilling time is about 6 - 8 minutes per side. You'll know its ready to flip when the edges are white and it releases fairly easily from your grill.

Cajun Blackened Grilled Catfish Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 4 - 6)
Time: Under 30 Minutes

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 tablespoons Italian-style salad dressing

  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon lemon pepper

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder

  • 1/8 teaspoons salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon seasoned salt

  • 1/8 teaspoons pepper

  • 1 pound catfish fillets

  • Directions for Grilling Catfish

    Preheat grill for high heat (500 degrees F). The coals should be white hot.

    Place a cast iron griddle flat top or skillet over the coals and allow it to preheat for 20 minutes.

    Meanwhile, in small bowl mix together all of the ingredients except the catfish fillets to create a homemade cajun seasoning for blackening your catfish during grilling.

    Brush both sides of each fillet with your homemade cajun seasoning.

    Clean and lightly oil grill grate.

    Place the catfish with the rounded side down first onto your preheated griddle or skillet.

    Grilled catfish only takes about 6 - 8 minutes per side. Flip only once. This blackened catfish is best served with rice and vegetables.
