Cooking Black or Chilean Sea Bass on the Grill

While watching this video, keep in mind these grilling tips:

Chilean sea bass is a good choice for the grill because it is moderately oily so it won't stick as much as other varieties.

Preheat grill for medium heat (350 degrees F).

Grilling any variety of sea bass be it black or chilean only takes about 7 minutes per side (per inch) to cook through. You'll know its ready to flip when the edges are opaque and it releases fairly easily from your grill.



Grilled Sea Bass Recipe
with Garlic Basil Parmesan

Ingredients (Serves 4)
Time: 30 Minutes

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped fresh basil


  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil


  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese


  • 4 teaspoons minced garlic


  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder


  • 1 lb black or chilean sea bass fillets, skin-on

  • Directions for Grilling Sea Bass

    In a small food processor or blender, add the basil, olive oil, parmesan cheese, minced garlic, and chili powder. Blend for at least 15 seconds.

    Add marinade and sea bass to a large resealable plastic bag. Seal and turn to coat. Open, squeeze out excess air, and reseal.

    Marinate your fish while you preheat your grill for medium heat (350 degrees F).

    Lightly oil the grate. Place your sea bass skin side down, cover and grill for 7 minutes. Brush with left over marinade, flip, and continue grilling 7 more minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork.

    To put this recipe over the top we recommend serving this dish with our garlic parsley grilled potatoes and grilled mushrooms with blue cheese.


    Simple Spicy Grilled Sea Bass Recipe

    Ingredients (Serves 6)
    Time: 30 Minutes

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil


  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder


  • 1 teaspoon onion powder


  • 1 teaspoon paprika


  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon pepper


  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic


  • 1 1/2 tablespoons parsley


  • 2 pounds sea bass


  • Directions for Cooking Sea Bass on the Grill

    Preheat grill for medium heat (350 degrees F)

    In a small bowl, whisk together all of the ingredients except for the fish.

    Brush each side of the sea bass fillets with the spicy garlic parsley mixture and reserve leftover marinade.

    Lightly oil grate. Place fish skin-side down. Grill for 7 minutes. Brush with leftover marinade, flip, and continue grilling 7 minutes more.
